As a happy participant of this year’s Summer Theater Intensive at Bard College Berlin, I spent my June taking many workshops with Berlin-based artists, frequenting the wondrous performance scene of the city, fell in love with this place, and, with three brilliant colleagues, devised this 20-minute piece of performance. Let’s say it’s a love story. But you really have to watch the entire recording. Or, even better, you are among the very selective group of people who came to The Factory in Pankow on the afternoon of June 29 and watched it live. Thank you all very, very much, my friends in the audience.
My colleagues are: Leo Allender Becker, CLAC, Lisa Virginia.
We collaborated intimately, yet it was Leo’s vision that fashioned our stunning costumes, CLAC’s music that defined our extensive soundscape, and Lisa’s design that put together our breathing set and lighting. I, as a mover, contributed to the movement vocabulary of the piece. We went through a lot of talking and laughing and crafting and trying out things. We bowed with pride and love for one another.
Thank you to Dawn Akemi Saito and Jonathan Rosenberg, the director duo of the program who introduced us to contemporary German theatre and supported us so generously throughout the creative process.
Thank you to all the inspiring workshop leaders as well as the staff and teachers at Bard Berlin, especially Janina Schabig, who recorded this video with handheld device, and Joon Park, who helped our group materialised the net.
And thank you to all the amazing students in the cohort, especially Maia, who helped as the light and sound board-op of our piece.
